Department of Homeland Security tech adviser helps Wisconsin grant seekers navigate agency

MADISON –Michael B. Smith, the senior advisor to the undersecretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, spoke Tuesday to a group of 25 guests as part of an educational series produced by the Wisconsin Security Research Consortium. The group consisted of academic scientists, business developers and service providers throughout the state.



DHS Awards $844 Million to Secure Nation's Critical Infrastructure
May 16, 2008
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced today more than $844 million in grant awards as part of its Infrastructure Protection Activities (IPA) grant program. Grant awards will strengthen security at ports and enhance transit, trucking and intercity bus systems. Funds provided will be used to prevent, protect against, respond to and recover from terrorist attacks, major disasters and other emergencies

"The rubber is starting to hit the road," says Bob Carlson, director of applied sciences at Marshfield Medical Clinic, in reference to growing recognition among federal agencies of Wisconsin's regards assets. Carlson, with 20 years of experience with commercial ventures through the Marshfield Clinic, has worked a long time to broaden collaboration throughout the state.


Wisconsin Security Research Consortium adds three decades of military experience to board of directors

MADISON –Retired Marine Corps Brig. Gen. James Feigley has been unanimously elected to the board of directors of the Wisconsin Security Research Consortium, a non-profit organization working to bring R&D dollars into the state through secured and classified research grants.

Feigley, with more than 30 years of military experience in the Marine Corps, joins a statewide organization that includes members from research institutions, academia and government.

Feds Funding Research: Working with the Department of Homeland Security was produced by the Wisconsin Security Research Consortium in conjunction with UW-Oshkosh and WiSys. The event took place April 9, 2008 at the UW-Oshkosh Reeve Union. With more than 35 individuals in attendance this informational event provided insight into the importance of homeland security and funding opportunities from the Department of Homeland Security.


National Consortium Outlines Vision for Homeland Security

Department of Energy grants Milwaukee $200-thousand as part of national solar energy program

MILWAUKEE - As part of the Department of Energy's Solar America Initiative Milwaukee, WI was one of 12 U.S. cities awarded a $200,000 grant to implement a  variety of solar energy technology throughout their city.

DHS Announces Release of Application Guidance for Over $3 Billion in Grant Programs
February 1, 2008
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) today announced the release of application guidance for 14 federal grant programs whose collective purpose is to strengthen prevention, protection, response and recovery capabilities at all levels of government. The Department uses the application guidance to set strategic priorities that support President George W. Bush's National Homeland Security Strategy and align with the Department's National Preparedness Guidelines and the recently released National Response Framework. Fiscal Year (FY) 2008 grant programs provide $376.3 million more than last year to enhance the nation’s ability to prevent, protect against, respond to and recover from terrorist attacks, major disasters and other emergencies.
